Whitbread Maxi Steinlager II

84’ | Whitbread Maxi | 1987
Race Winner — 1989–90 Whitbread Round the World Race · Won All 6 Legs

Steinlager II is the most dominant ocean racing yacht in Whitbread history. Designed by Bruce Farr and skippered by Peter Blake, she won every leg of the 1989–90 Whitbread Round the World Race — six from six, a feat no boat has matched before or since.

Built by McMullen & Wing in Auckland, the ketch-rigged maxi combined Farr’s characteristic hull efficiency with a campaign executed to perfection by the New Zealand crew. Steinlager II arrived at the start line as favourite and left as a legend of offshore sailing.
