Whitbread Maxi Fisher and Paykel

Fisher & Paykel was one of the Farr-designed maxi fleet that made the 1989–90 Whitbread a showcase for New Zealand offshore sailing. The appliance company’s sponsorship brought another high-performance Farr hull to the start line, competing alongside stablemates Steinlager II and The Card.

The 1989–90 edition was dominated by Farr designs — a testament to the firm’s mastery of the Maxi IOR rule that governed the class through its final years before the Whitbread 60 one-design era began.
