Whitbread Maxi Ceramco New Zealand

Whitbread Maxi | 1981
1981–82 Whitbread Round the World Race — Peter Blake’s First Campaign

Ceramco New Zealand marked Peter Blake’s debut as skipper in the Whitbread Round the World Race — the beginning of a remarkable partnership between Farr Yacht Design and New Zealand ocean racing. The campaign became famous beyond its result when Ceramco was dismasted in the Southern Ocean, yet the crew pressed on to finish.

The experience Blake gained aboard this Farr-designed maxi shaped every campaign he would run over the following two decades, including his record-breaking 1989–90 Whitbread victory and his Jules Verne circumnavigation records.
