Whitbread 60 Merit Cup

Merit Cup continued Pierre Fehlmann’s long association with Farr Yacht Design into the Whitbread 60 era. Fehlmann had won the 1985–86 Whitbread with UBS Switzerland aboard a Farr Maxi; Merit Cup was his return to the race in the new one-design class over a decade later.

The Swiss campaign brought the discipline and organisation that had made Fehlmann’s earlier programmes successful, and the Swiss flag remained a fixture in the Farr-designed offshore fleet across four decades of competitive sailing.
