Whitbread 60 Kvaerner Innovation

60’ | Whitbread 60 | 1996
1997–98 Whitbread Round the World Race

Kvaerner Innovation, backed by the Norwegian engineering group, was one of the final entries in the Whitbread era before the race became the Volvo Ocean Race. The Norwegian campaign maintained Scandinavia’s strong presence in offshore racing at a time when EF Language and Swedish Match had made Sweden a major force.

The 1997–98 Whitbread was the swan song for the Whitbread 60 class — competitive, well-funded, and dominated from start to finish by the Farr 60 design. Kvaerner Innovation was part of the last fleet to race under the Whitbread name.
