Kiboko 4
The Brief
A superyacht that sails like a racer
The owner of Kiboko 4 came to Farr with a clear vision: a yacht that could win regattas and still cruise the world in comfort. At 142 feet, this is not a boat that should be quick — and yet it is. The brief demanded performance without compromise, blending superyacht refinement with genuine racing capability.
This was the fourth collaboration between the owner and Farr Yacht Design, building on a relationship that spans decades and multiple successful builds. Each iteration has pushed the boundaries of what’s possible at this size.
The Approach
Performance-driven hull design at superyacht scale
Farr applied the same computational fluid dynamics methodology used on America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Race programs to optimize the hull form at 142 feet. Every line was drawn to minimize drag while maintaining the volume needed for world-class interiors.
The structural engineering balanced weight savings against classification requirements, using advanced composite construction techniques developed in partnership with Baltic Yachts. The result is a yacht that is significantly lighter than conventional builds of this size, translating directly into speed under sail.
The Innovation
Where racing pedigree meets superyacht luxury
Kiboko 4 introduced several innovations that have since influenced the wider superyacht market. The hull optimization techniques, borrowed from grand prix racing, delivered measurable performance advantages. The rig design pushed the limits of what’s practical on a yacht of this displacement.
The World Superyacht Awards jury recognized not just the speed, but the integration — a yacht that performs at the highest level while delivering a genuine luxury experience. That combination is the essence of what Farr Yacht Design has always pursued: performance without compromise.
